McCall Kendall
& JohnathanZane
August 24, 2024
The Story
Let's set the scene: it's late August in south Florida, coming up on noon and a comfortable 109°. John could think of no better time of day to plan the most epic surprise propsal that ever existed for his extremely heat-adverse girlfriend, using the guise of "brunch." As the two got ready, McCall started the day with a trick question: "should I do something different with my hair?" Now, one would think he'd provide an guided response with consideration to the knowledge John possessed; something along the lines of "do what you always do." Instead, "whatever you want" resulted in a party pony with 4-inch bohemian earrings to boot- a subtle, timeless combination to be memorialized until the end of time. As John packed the car with what appeared to be picnic supplies, McCall had the fleeting thought that today could be the day, which was quickly defused when she looked at her unmanicured fingernails; there's no way he could possibly allow such a travesty to occur for the proposal…sigh.
These thoughts were quickly forgetten as we ventured away from their downtown Fort Lauderdale apartment to The Bonnet House, where he did in fact plan a surprise picnic! Following a short jungle golf cart ride, they approached the iconic fountain and were greeted by a " staff photographer," a seemingly indisputable fact based on the camera and branded polo. When asked if they wanted a complimentary photo, McCalls' first thought was "it is so hot, this is going to be terrible," followed by a vocal, "sure!"
Now, you may wonder "how did she still not know what was happening at this point?" as they were put into position. However the instructions were to not move, and prepare for a long exposure, "power pose," shot - very Miami if you will. Countdown from 10, he gets into position, and you have the photo before you. John executed the best planned engagement shoot McCall could dream of. That’s important to note because we’re talking about the girl who said she wanted a six prong solitaire engagement ring and hidden photographer for her engagement 10 years prior....In summary he nailed it (and has a really good memory.)

The options are endless, but we've got you covered! Being summertime in Newport, you can expect many hotels to require a two night stay. While there could be worse things than summer in New England, we understand that our guests have diverse preferences and needs when it comes to lodging. To ensure that your stay is as comfortable as possible, we've curated a selection of hotels that cater to a range of requirements. Feel free to explore the details of each option below, and we encourage you to do your own research to ensure that you find the perfect accommodations that align with your unique preferences and requirements. We can't wait to celebrate this special day with you!
The wedding location is Portsmouth, situated on Aquidneck Island, which is shared by Middletown and Newport. While Newport is well-known and bustling, Middletown and Portsmouth are charming, rural-coastal towns with easy access to the amenities of downtown Newport. If you're conducting your own research, we recommend focusing on these three towns, and can also consider exploring Jamestown and Bristol, although we'd recommend not venturing further than that.
